We are honored to premiere this fabulous new work by Alex Temple at PASIC - the biggest percussion community event in the world!
Long-time members of the percussion world know how much of a 'straight boy's club' it can often be. Regardless of musical genre, playing drums has developed an artificial association with a sort of macho identity. As Queer percussionists, you can imagine, how meaningful it is to us for Spectrum Ensemble to be invited to perform at PASIC. To us, it means that our community is finally making it a priority to make this a space for all kinds of people - not just one majority. Not to mention it is simply a validation of the music that we make, as we strive to perform these Queer-composed masterpieces at the highest level!
On top inviting Spectrum Ensemble to PASIC 2019, platforms are being given this year to other important representation and social equity promoting endeavors, including Hit Like A Girl, a meeting of of Diversity Committee, and a #MeToo panel. Our community is truly entering a new age of increased social justice, and we cannot wait to witness the positive changes that are coming!
